This is the Energy UK COVID-19 information hub. Here we will share our latest press statements, as well as the information, support and advice for both industry and customers – from energy efficiency tips to staying safe from carbon monoxide at home.

Going further for customers and communities

Right at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, all energy suppliers agreed additional measures to support energy customers impacted by COVID-19. You can read more about this Customer Commitment here.

In addition to this, many energy companies have partnered up with local and national charities to go further to support those in need during these challenging times. You can find some examples below.

British Gas has partnered with Trussell Trust to help food banks during Coronavirus crisis.

Bristol Energy had donated a further £12,500 to Bristol charity the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), to support its WHAM (Warmer Homes Advice & Money) project. The donation will provide immediate support to local households who are particularly vulnerable to fuel poverty during the Covid-19 restrictions.



Centrica is donating £1m to its charity partner, Carers UK, which will help fund an extended hours service for its helpline as well as other activities the charity undertakes to support carers throughout the year.

Centrica has launched Communities @ Local Heroes - a free and simple online service connecting local volunteers with those that need help for essential tasks during the Covid-19 outbreak. For example, shopping, collecting medication, or if they simply fancy a chat. 



EDF has partnered up with Boots to enable smart and technical field engineers to volunteer for Boots Pharmacy Delivery and Collection (PDC) scheme to deliver vital medical supplies to those in need across the country.

EDF has donated essential supplies, including Personal Protective Equipment to be used by key workers, and surplus food to local charities who support those in need:

EDF Renewables is providing funding for local communities to respond to the crisis:
•    Local Covid-19 response helped by EDF Renewables Burnfoot Hill Wind Farm community fund
•    Local Covid-19 Action Group set up with help from EDF Renewables Longpark Wind Farm community fund

National Grid has donated £500,000 donation to the National Emergencies Trust and the Trussell Trust last month. They’ve also started a new volunteer programme to support the Trussell Trust’s network of 1,200 food banks. Find out more here.

Octopus Energy meter engineers are lending a hand to essential services such as food banks.

OVO Energy has introduced an interim Coronavirus volunteering policy to provide guidance to all employees about how they can volunteer their time to charities or organisations responding to the Coronavirus outbreak. A new platform has been created to help signpost volunteering opportunities and organisations that require support. OVO's executive team and senior directors have voluntarily taken a 20% reduction in salary, with this money going towards OVO COVID-19 volunteer costs, including expenses.

RWE Generation UK will focus all donations for the foreseeable future on helping those in need during the current COVID-19 challenges. The business will donate £1000 each to charities nominated by staff - initially this will include the Trussell Trust Food Banks, Age UK and the British Red Cross. Sites have also made donations locally – including 50 laptops, and safety glasses and face masks to the Great Western Hospital Trust in Swindon; the team at Humber Gateway wind farm have donated wash bags to support NHS staff take their uniforms home for washing; and the team at Scroby Sands wind farm have donated coveralls and gloves to the local hospital.

SSE has made £1m available immediately for communities to access to support coronavirus response efforts.  Successful initiatives supported so far include food drop services and 3D masks printing. Its Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) business is also offering grants of up to £3,000 to support community members in vulnerable situations. SSE is also supporting its employees to volunteer, accommodating short tasks during the working day and offering one week full pay for longer-term requests. Energy Companies who have signed C-19 Business Pledge

The C-19 pledge has been set up by former Cabinet Minister, Rt Hon. Justine Greening, and UK entrepreneur David Harrison. The purpose of the pledge is to encourage businesses and universities to be a force for good by making a commitment to doing what they can to tackle Coronavirus (COVID-19). All information here. Energy companies who have signed up the Pledge include: Bulb, Cadent Gas , Drax, EDF, E.ON, ENGIE, National Grid, RWE, Shell UK and SSE.
