Equality and Diversity
Energy UK is proud of the work we do across the sector to drive forward progress to ensure a more diverse and inclusive energy sector.
Energy UK hosted our first ever Inclusion and Diversity in Energy Conference, in partnership with Accenture, on 19 September 2019. In 2021, we are hosting our Inclusion, Equality and Diversity Conference, in partnership with Ofgem and sponsored by Accenture. Find out more about the conference on our website.
Equality and Diversity Forum
In 2018 we launched the Equality and Diversity Forum, a cross-industry committee looking to share experiences from all attendees and external organisations in a bid to drive forward best practice in equality and diversity across the sector. The group is attended by organisations’ HR teams, internal network leads or equality and diversity leads.
Over the course of the Forum’s first year, we held a number of events and workshops and launched a new publication to highlight some of the positive steps being taken by the energy industry in equality, diversity and inclusion.
In 2021, Energy UK launched ‘The Equality and Diversity Forum’, a private LinkedIn group, as a space for energy professionals to exchange best practice and share knowledge of work to drive diversity and inclusion forward in the energy sector. Forum members can add themselves to the group on LinkedIn.
Pride in Energy
Energy UK’s Pride in Energy network is a diversity forum and network for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) members of the energy industry and their allies. The Pride in Energy network was created in response to a need for an organisation to address LGBT+ issues in the energy industry.
Energy UK and Pride in Energy will be hosting a series of meetings and events to further advance LGBT+ equality and diversity across the industry. Pride in Energy’s networking events will run in parallel with workshops whereby Energy UK’s members will have the opportunity to learn best practice and build it into their operations.
Celebrating women in energy
In 2019, we used our successful 'Women in Energy' videos to celebrate women in the sector and highlight the variety of roles they hold. in 2021, we approached women in the energy sector again to highlight their experiences of working in what is, traditionally, a male-dominated sector. We also wanted to find out how they thought the sector was changing to achieve the mutually beneficial targets of becoming more diverse and achieving our ambitious Net Zero target.
See how we are celebrating women in energy.
Diversity in Energy Speakers Directory
In December 2020, Energy UK launched the Diversity in Energy Speakers Directory, a list highlighting the plethora of experts in the energy sector from minority ethnic backgrounds. These experts come from right across the sector, representing the generation, retail, network, and new energy services (e.g. smart systems flexibility or transport) and heat markets.
