About our members

Our members represent the truly diverse nature of the UK’s energy industry - from the UK’s largest energy firms to new, growing suppliers and generators, now making up over half of our membership.

Our members turn renewable energy sources as well as nuclear, gas and coal into electricity for over 27 million homes and every business in Britain.  Over 680,000 people in every corner of the country rely on the sector for their jobs, with many of our members providing long-term employment as well as quality apprenticeships and training for those starting their careers. The energy industry invests over £12.5bn annually, delivers around £84bn in economic activity through its supply chain and interaction with other sectors, and pays £6bn in tax to HMT.

Our members range from all-scale hydro developers and generators, investors, consulting engineers to manufacturers and suppliers of equipment. The BHA works mainly in the UK and overseas supporting and promoting the entire hydropower industry.

Brockwell energy was created from the aggregation of the energy interests of Hargreaves Services plc. Brockwell is developing a portfolio of energy projects including two Energy-from Waste plants in Scotland, a portfolio of 400MW of onshore wind projects and a number of projects in the flexible generation sector. Brockwell is led by Alex Lambie.

Bulb is the UK's fastest growing energy supplier, providing affordable renewable energy to more than 1.5 million members across the UK. Founded in 2015 by Hayden Wood and Amit Gudka, Bulb's mission is to help its members reduce their bills and their carbon impact.

Bulb supplies 100% renewable electricity and 10% green gas to all its members, sourced from independent generators. Its single tariff is one of the cheapest on the market, renewable or not. This is made possible by advanced, scalable and proprietary technology which enables Bulb to operate more efficiently than a typical utility business.

Bulb was named 2017 Start-Up of the Year and is included in LinkedIn’s 2018 list of the top 25 UK tech startups to work for. Bulb is a Living Wage Employer and a certified B Corp, working to demonstrate how business can be a force for good.
